Not All Homes Are the Same...

Neither Are Homeowner Insurance Policies!

Dwelling

Under this coverage your policy protects your home and any structure attached to it like a porch or garage. Other unattached buildings on your property are also covered as long as they are not used for business purposes or rented to others. Building materials and supplies on your property like lumber or bags of cement which will be used to remodel or repair your home are also covered.

Inflation Coverage

This coverage automatically increases the amount of your insurance coverages on your home and personal property as inflation changes the cost of replacing your property. The charges are based on the movement of an inflation index on each renewal.

Personal Property

This coverage protects the things in your home like clothes and furniture. It also provides protection when your property is away from home - like the things you take with you on vacation. It is important that you realize special limits apply to the amount of coverage on certain types of personal property. For example, money, bank notes and coins are only covered up to $200. Certain other types of personal property, such as jewelry, furs, and silverware, have special limits that apply to theft losses. In most cases higher limits are available for an additional premium. Or, specific coverage can be obtained through a seperate policy.

Loss of Use

Under this coverage your policy provides payment for certain necessary expenses you incur when your home is unfit to live in because of an insured loss and you're forced to temporarily move. These covered expenses are those over and above what you'd normally spend for food, shelter and related items. For instance, your mortgage payment wouldn't be included because you'd have to pay that anyway. But the "additional" cost of your family's living somewhere else while your home is being repaired would be covered.

Deductables

There are a number of deductible amounts that may be selected or required under these property coverages. The theory behind the deductible is a simple one. You assume the cost of losses under the deductible amount, while the carrier protects you against the larger, harder to afford losses, those above the deductible amount.

Personal Liability

This coverage provides payments for accidental bodily injury or property damage you or a relative who lives with you may be legally responsible for. For example, if someone is accidentally injured while on your premises, or if you accidentally injure someone while playing golf, this coverage would pay the sum - up to the limits of the policy- you might be obligated to pay as damages. However, it does not cover any liability you or anyone who is a regular resident of your household may have to each other.

Medical Payments to Others

This coverage pays medical expenses up to the limits in the policy for someone who is accidentally injured on your property or is accidentally injured by you or a relative who lives with you. However, this coverage does not pay for medical expenses for you or members of your family that live with you.

Losses Not Insured

While our carriers homeowner's policy provides comprehensive coverage, it does not provide coverage for every loss. Examples of losses not insured included but are not limited to:

  • Water Damage caused by flood or underground water.
  • Earth movement including earthquakes and mudslide.
  • Damage caused by settling, deterioration, contamination, or nuclear hazard.
  • Damage caused by birds, rodents, insects, or domestic animals.

Loss Settlement Provisions

With our carriers homeowner policy, the amount of insurance you carry on the dwelling, compared to the dwelling's replacement cost determines your dwelling and personal property loss settlement provisions.

Dwelling:

  • Replacement Cost Loss Settlement - Similar Construction: Provides payment based on the cost to repair or replace with similar materials and construction techniques when you insure your home for at least 80% of its replacement cost.
  • Common Construction Loss Statement: If you choose to insure your home for less than 80% of its replacement cost, this endorsement provides payment based on the cost to repair or replace damaged property, including obsolete, antique, and custom built property, with construction techniques and materials commonly used by the building trades in standard new construction.

Personal Property

  • Limited Replacement Cost Loss Settlement: Provides payment based on the cost to repair or replace the damaged property at the time of loss, if actually replaced.
  • Depreciated Loss Settlement: Provides payment based on the cost to repair or replace the damaged property less depreciation at the time of loss.
